What is SUP / Paddle boarding?

SUP is Stand Up Paddling and is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. It is standing on a slightly modified surf board and a fantastic all body work out. Young or old or no matter what your fitness level is simple to learn and a great way to get in shape.

I'm not a strong swimmer, will I be ok?

Everyone in the class wears a life jacket and we will run through all aspects of safety throughout the lesson. We also send out a questionnaire before the lesson where we ask you how strong a swimmer you are.

My balance is awful, I won't be able to stand

Learning to stand on a paddle board uses different muscles and we go through how to stand up in a simple method to make sure you are standing by the end of the lesson.

Where do we meet?

We all meet in Canal Fields in Berkhamsted, HP4 1HR, it is off Broadwater. If you follow the lane all the way round you will come to a car park that's free to park in for 4 hours and you will find us there.

What if it's raining or there's bad weather?

We make sure that we keep in contact with your before the lesson and if there is light rain then we would generally go out as it's water sport right? If it's bad weather we will look at another date we can go out or you can cancel

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for full payment when you book. If you cancel 24 hours before the lesson then we will give a full refund. up to 12 hours before we offer a 25% refund.

How long will it take how to learn how to SUP

By the end of a lesson we aim to have your standing on your board and understand the basics. We do offer 121 classes once your skills improve but you can pick up paddling quite quickly

Do I need a licence to paddle?

When you are on a class with Blue Fin you are covered by our insurance and our licence but if you want to go out on your own you will need a water licence. The best way to get one is to join the BCU (British Canoe Union) and their on the water membership, this will give you access to 80% of UK water ways and insure your board and paddle. Do you supply wetsuits?

No we don't supply wetsuits as paddling in the canal you shouldn't need one. We ask people to wear a swimming costume with a t shirt and shorts with water shoes (if you have them) or a pair of old trainers

Can I change anywhere?

There are limited areas to change nearby but we ask people to come wearing the clothes they want to paddle in
